Covid-19 Reflections – Drawing Michael
This is a portrait of my brother Michael drawing during the Grow Op Exhibition show at the Gladstone Hotel. The show occured just as Toronto was getting news of the Covid-19 pandemic.
As the show continued, I became acutely aware of the threat of the virus whenever someone else entered our gallery room.
I drew Michael a dozen times, often very close. I never stopped feeling comfortable in the same space with him.
For everyone else, I set up three points in the corners of the room (two chairs and one square). Participants chose one and I sat, stood, or lay down, drawing them in another. Often, they were obscured by objects.
