Lesson Purpose
This lesson is a useful tool once students can reliably build a rectangular prism using 2-point perspective. It teaches students many of the steps they need to build complexity into their perspective drawings. The shape used is simply an example. The method can produce any number of shapes. Students are able to follow along using the step-by-step guide below. They can also learn by following their instructor using a whiteboard.
The slideshow above will guide you to create two variations of the “U” shaped, or “cut out” rectangular prism. For a larger view, please click on the image. You may scroll over the slideshow to pause the slide.
Lesson Timing
The simple two point perspective lesson takes between 20 and 30 minutes if students are familiar with building a rectangular prism. If they are not, it is best taught as a separate lesson on a different day to give students time to “play” with building simple rectangular prisms.
