YOU: A Zine About Co-Workers Girlfriends Strangers Neurotypicals Who Hate Me
This is a one day comic based on an exercise in Lynda Barry’s Making Comics! I modified her FACE JAM exercise, ignoring the bit about having friends to pass this to.
These faces were drawn following specific instructions! 5 seconds for each head + neck + shoulder + neckline. 5 seconds for every 3 sets of ears. 3 seconds a hairdo. 3 seconds for each set of eyes. 3 more for each nose (but they have other requirements, like being a letter of the alphabet or a 3 letter word), 3 seconds per mouth and 1.5 seconds for every set of eyebrows! After that, I used the PATTERN AND SOLID BLACK assignment to colour the work in with black markers and pencil crayons.
I ascribed each weirdo a description, which was easier than you might think. The only one that threw me off is the one I called “This Guy” because it looked so much like a goofy little kid. I get along with kids! But other than that…
