Lawrence Heights Dynamic Art Project
With the Dynamic Art Project, I aimed to represent the Lawrence Heights community in its complexities and many dimensions.
My own practice is greatly enhanced by spending time as a teacher reviewing the ‘basics’ with fledgling artists. In a series of lessons, I guided grade 6 students to create drawings and prints as well as ceramic representations of local flora and fauna.
Another aspect of the project was a celebration of community members. These are the everyday people who interact with students and their families.
The student’s work and my own have been collaged together into a giant map that resides in the Lawrence Heights Middle School. As a whole, the project celebrates the familiar, personal, and grounded community life in all its minutiae.
I am grateful to Art Starts and Platform A for funding the project.
